The 5th International Conference „Advanced Rail Technologies” organized annually by the Railway Research Institute and the Faculty of Transport of the Warsaw University of Technology, Jubilee commemorating 65th Anniversary of the Railway Research Institute


 

The 5th International Conference „Advanced Rail Technologies” organized annually by the Railway Research Institute and the Faculty of Transport of the Warsaw University of Technology was held in Warsaw on 9-10 November 2016.

This year’s event was connected with observances of the 65th anniversary of the Railway Research Institute. The conference commenced with a jubilee session dedicated to the  65-year activity of the Institute and was attended by guests of honour, among others Andrzej Bittel, the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Construction, Wojciech Wawrzyński, Vice-Rector for General Affairs at the Warsaw University of Technology and other eminent guests representing national and foreign academic and research centres.

Agreement on Cooperation between the Railway Research Institute and Belarusian Scientific and Research Institute of Transport „Transtechnika” represented by its Generel Director, Andrey V. Korolev was signed during that session. The Embassy of the Republic of Belarus was represented by Counsellor  Ms. Olga Suromeiko . That was a practical implementation of high-level commitments taken by Deputy Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Minister of Infrastructure and Construction Andrzej Adamczyk, who had paid visits to Belarus.

The conference started with a plenary session devoted to certification in rail transport, chaired by Professor  Marianna Jacyna, the Dean of Transport Faculty at the Warsaw University of Technology.

The two-day conference was attended by 140 participants, including speakers representing universities such as Universities of Technology of Warsaw, Poznań and Gdańsk, also the Military University of Technology, the University of Technology and Humanities in Radom,  the Warsaw School of Economics, as well as research institutes, i.e. the Institute of Precision Mechanics, the Rail Vehicles Institute, the Road and Bridge Research Institute and the Institute of Logistics and Warehousing.

Moreover, there participated representatives of state administration offices, i.e. the Office of Rail Transport (UTK), the Ministry of Infrastructure and Construction, several Polish Railway Companies, as well as rail transport production and service companies, i.e. BOMBARDIER, COVER, Koleje Mazowieckie – KM Sp. z o.o.,  (Mazovian Railways, Ltd), Łódzka Kolej Aglomeracyjna, Sp. z o.o., (Łódź Agglomeration Railway, Ltd), PESA, PKP Budownictwo Sp .z o.o., (PKP Construction, Ltd), PKP CARGO S.A., PKP PLK, PKP S.A., SHIM-POL, STADLER, STRABAG, TAPS. Foreign guests from the European Union Agency for Railways, Austria, Belarus, the Czech Republic, Germany and Ukraine also took part in the conference.

The conference covered the following research areas: Railway Operation and Traffic, Rail Transport Infrastructure, Railway Control-Command and Signalling, Railway Information and Communication Technology, Traction and Rail Vehicles, Materials Engineering and Recycling in Rail Transport. A total of 61 papers, 6 foreign ones including, were submitted. The articles prepared for the conference will be published in “Problemy Kolejnictwa” (“Railway Reports”), scientific journal issued by the Railway Research Institute.
