On 1 June 2023, the Railway Research Institute in Warsaw was visited by a group of students from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Cracow University of Technology, together with their lecturer, Tymoteusz Rasiński, M.Sc.

The first-cycle students of the Rail Vehicle Engineering specialisation held their visit as part of a laboratory class in the subject of Certification and Approval of Rail Vehicles.

During the theoretical part, our heads in charge introduced the guests to the scope of research activities of the individual units of the Railway Research Institute, while the practical part showed how tests are carried out and what modern equipment our qualified staff have at their disposal.

There were presented, among other things, tests of flammability and smoke properties and toxicity of combustion products, laboratory tests of trackside signalling devices, static, dynamic and fatigue tests of rolling stock and infrastructure components, tests of magnetic field levels generated by electrical and electronic devices in the railway environment. In addition, measurement apparatus used for track and sub-track diagnostics was shown.

The students demonstrated a great deal of factual knowledge, asked lots of questions and actively participated in the tests.
